Intentional or Unintentional Tattoo Fading

Tattoo fading can be intentional or unintentional.  If you want to intentionally remove or fade a tattoo for another fresh cover tattoo, you can choose laser tattoo removal or a home tattoo fading product.  However, if you want to prevent tattoo fading on a new tattoo, or a tattoo you are going to get then you should read the following information on ways to prevent unintentional tattoo fading.

Tattoos that seem to hold up best over time are in places on the body that don’t get as much sun.  The sun is your tattoo and your skin’s worst enemy when it comes tattoo fading, and aging the skin in general.

The sun not only causes wrinkles and age spots, it also causes some tattoos to fade and wash out.  In order to prevent tattoo fading consider placing tattoos on the areas of your body don’t get as much exposure.

If you have a tattoo that is gets frequent sun exposure and you want to prevent future fading, or you have a tattoo already starting to fade and you want to prevent further fading you must care for your skin and apply sunscreen daily.  SPF of 25 or greater will protect your tattoo from sun damage for a longer length of time than lower numbers of SPF but remember you still need to reapply throughout the day.

Another way to prevent tattoo fading is to choose tattoo colors that are stable and most resistant to fading. Blacks and blues are the most stable tattoo colors and the least likely to fade. Red-based tattoo pigments such as yellow, purple, orange, and magenta are more difficult to maintain which makes tattoo fading of these colors more likely.

Tattoo placement, color and quality of tattoo ink, and wearing daily sun protection are all ways to prevent tattoo fading.  Of course if you want to intentionally fade a tattoo you can choose a tattoo fading product or other method of tattoo removal.

Finally, if you really want to prevent tattoo fading from the sun or having to fade a tattoo that you are tired of covering up the best tattoo rule is to get your tattoo where the sun doesn’t shine.
