Getting a cover-up tattoo

Cover Ups Tattoo Removal Method

Cover-up tattoos are considered a tattoo removal method even though no actual tattoo removal takes place.  Cover up tattoos do just that, they cover up existing tattoos.

Basically, cover-up tattoos are new tattoos specifically designed to tattoo directly over existing artwork, to completely hide or revamp old tattoos. Cover up tattoos are used for a variety of reasons, from disguising gang tattoos to adding color and details to basic tattoos creating more interesting designs.

In order to get a good cover-up tattoo, the tattoo artist must be a talented professional artist experienced at rework ink.  The goal of tattooing cover designs over tattoos is to disguise old tattoos, without making it obvious the new tattoo is intentionally hiding old ink.

During the process of getting cover up ink, the artist uses a variety of techniques, such as a “heavy inking” a method of working extra pigment into the skin to ensure new ink completely removes the appearance of the design underneath.

An important fact to note when considering a cover–up as a method of tattoo removal, getting a cover up tattoo is a permanent decision.  The extra work a tattoo artists puts into making a cover up tattoo successful also makes the new tattoo permanent ink that is nearly impossible to remove.

So, when choosing to erase unwanted body art with cover-up tattoos rather than alternative tattoo removal methods, remember to pick a tattoo design that you truly like looking at, and plan to like seeing for a long time.
