"that which feeds me destroys me"

Angelina Jolie is without a doubt one of Hollywood’s most famously known actresses of all times.  This celebrity actress has appeared in numerous films throughout her career, yet Angelina’s female celebrity fame is branded more so for her personal endeavors covered heavily in ink by the media.

Angelina branded for her humanitarian work, being an adoption parent and mother of six children, her former marriage to ex Billy-Bob Thorton, her notorious relationship with celebrity heart throb Brad Pitt, and her ongoing tabloid feud with Pitt’s ex Jennifer Aniston.  But perhaps the most recognized aspect this female celebrity is infamous for is her branded collection of black tattoos.

With a celebrity tattoo collection of more than a dozen black tattoos dispersed about her stunning body, Angelina Jolie’s black tattoos do not seem to be fading her celebrity’s acclaim.  She is the most popular female celebrity with tattoos covered in “ink.”

Evident of the cache of articles (including this one) and photos of Angelina Jolie tattoos available on the Internet, Jolie is a major celebrity influence causing the black tattoo trend, that some even label as a tattoo phenomenon among females getting tattoos.

Angelina’s 13 assorted black tattoos of multi lingual characters, words and saying are clearly representative of her fanatic yet exotic personality that captivates Brad Pitt.

Angie’s latest series of black tattoos on her left arm represents each birthplace of her six children, as well as serving to covers up her ex’s name tattoo.

And fans imitating celebrity tattoos such as Angelina’s should also remember celebrities are people too, and their tattoos are often targets for removal.  Angelina has had her share of laser tattoo removal and cover up work on several of her tattoos.

As the black tattoo trend continues with female fans getting celebrity tattoos in fashion with Hollywood’s A-listers keep in mind that even Angelina Jolie makes tattoo mistakes too.

The History of Tattoos Today

A brief glance back in time today, reveals the history of tattoos as being a period full of surprises.  Throughout history, tattoos have been viewed as intriguing designs characteristic of criticism.  And while a great number of people have changed with the times, and so to their attitude of tattoos, surprisingly many people today still hold on to history, and past views of tattoos.

A generation or two ago, having tattoos pretty much landed anyone in the company of soldiers, sailors, bikers and carnival workers.  However, this is not the case when it comes to tattoos today.  Tattoo intrigue not only continues to lure new admirers in, tattoo trends seem to surprise many of us too.

Looking at the history of tattoos in the early 1900’s, tattoos were the foundation caricature of carnival freak sideshows, with crowds of people making their way to the circus’s big top to view the unconventionally over the top tattooed.

During the 50’s and 60’s the history of tattoos repeated itself, becoming common among enlisted men serving in the Navy and Marines.  And it seems the tough, rugged, strong willed fighting character of sailors and soldiers led to the criminal appeal of tattoos.

Tattoos became the sign of the times, marking renegade outlaws, bikers, social outcasts, and the mentally criminal. The sub standard and deviant persona of tattoos remained throughout the 60’s leading into the early 1980’s.

Then the wave of the 80s hit, and tattooing started appealing as a cultural, artistic and social form of body art.

Deep Dark White Secret

Barely visible, yet unbearable to bare. White ink tattoos are the latest trend gaining momentum among celebrities.

The emerging trend of white ink, tattoo designs created with nothing but white ink are a bit of a contradiction to traditional tattooing.  Traditionally, tattoos are bold, often colorful designs intended to standout and draw attention; and while white ink tattoos do stand out and draw attention, it’s done in a different manner.

The lure of white ink is apparently its subtlety.  White tattoos are discreet and unnoticeable, unless you are looking for them.  And the put off of white tattoos; white ink tats are prone to fading and discoloration, which can be disappointing.

Ironically, white ink tattoos are best on light or fair skin tones, as darker skin cannot absorb enough of the white ink for tattoo images to appear.

Getting white ink is much more painful than traditional tattooing.  The white ink used is thicker than other tattoo inks, thus requires a larger, very sharp needle for injections.  Also, white tattoos require several passes over the area to make sure that the white ink sinks fully into the skin

When a white ink tattoo is first applied, it looks puffy and distorted, much like a burn, and often appears yellowish in color. Once the tattoo heals the white ink leaves a ghostly image that looks quite different from a traditional tattoo.

The downsides to white tattoos are they are notoriously hard to heal; absolutely cannot have sun exposure, as white ink fades tattoo almost twice as fast as a regular tattoo inks; and white ink commonly causes skin reactions with swelling and itching that leads to the ink oozing from the tattoo.

Despite all of this, there are still people with white ink tattoos, who are extremely satisfied.  However, the majority of us mistakenly confuse white ink tattoos for scars or brandings.

If you are considering a white ink tattoo, do your research carefully, as these tattoos can easily go very, very wrong.
